Preparing to implement Phase 3: reopening our church buildings.

We are happy to report that we have coordinators in place for each parish and they are currently liaising with their respective teams in terms of booking arrangements, stewarding and the cleaning of the church buildings. Sincere thanks to all those who so generously volunteered to help.

As discussions continue, it is becoming very clear that this is a complex undertaking.

For example, the booking system will require us to keep track of all requests either on line or by phone and to operate the system fairly so that people who want to come have an equal opportunity to do so.

The buildings have now been scoped for social distancing, but there remains a good deal of work to be done in preparing all three buildings and in providing information to those wishing to attend.

The actual service will not feel like a “normal Mass” and many issues surrounding the role of stewards and the need for safety before, during and after Mass are being carefully considered. With a maximum of 50 at each service, there is no possibility of a return to weekly Mass for all in the near future.

Finally, your responses to the questionnaire gave a clear indication that you consider safety paramount in all of this. Hence our decision to have a 72 hour gap between services to create a clear margin of safety for our volunteer cleaners. This will rule out any daily services and will normally require funerals to take place either on a Wednesday or a Thursday at one of the three parishes.

We shall continue to provide online weekend liturgies for both adults and children and our Cluster News will keep you informed of all that is going on in our cluster, including our plans for providing restricted communal worship.

Taking all this into consideration, we don’t anticipate the resumption of Masses in any of the parishes within the next three weeks. We aim to provide weekly updates of our plans and preparations and we kindly ask for your patience and cooperation as we all come to terms with being a faith community during a time of pandemic.

Fr Mike and Fr Alex.

Hymn of the Week:
Make me a channel of your peace

Mary may have waited a few weeks to hear her choice in our liturgy but I hope that the beautiful music recorded by Benedict & Damaris is enjoyed by all.

Tackling food poverty

There are many ways in which you can help bring hope.
1. Support our local food bank.

2. For just
£15.90 you can feed a child for a whole school year with Mary's Meals.
3. Check out
CAFOD, SCIAF and Oxfam for simple ways of helping people stand on their own two feet.

Justice matters

See: Last Sunday, in the afternoon of prayer, members of the cluster shared beautiful and powerful reflections on their experience of the last months. Time and again we heard people speak of a deeper awareness of nature, and how without the pollution and noise there was a clarity of the air and light, vividness of colour and intensity of birdsong. The Pope would also have appreciated their words.

Reflect: Five years ago, in publishing "Laudato Si'," he called us to renewal, as individuals, communities and as society. We are called to turn away from ways of living that harm the Earth and each other. The energy for that conversion comes in part from recognising and renewing our relationship with the Earth - from cherishing creation of which we are a part.

Act: When a flower, a plant or a tree catches your eye this week, you might wish to pause, even fleetingly, and as a prayer use (almost!) all your senses: to see, touch, smell and to befriend the focus of your attention.

Prayer Afternoon 26th July

We had our Cluster Prayer Service last Sunday.

Six brave people from our Cluster accepted the invitation to share their faith journey during Lockdown. It was a privilege and very encouraging to those of us who were able to listen to them and join in the prayer service. They were open and honest and very courageous. The feedback has been really positive.

So a big thank you to our  missionary disciples, Jacqui, Scott, Anthea, Frank, Suzanne and Peter for being prepared to step out of their comfort zone and share their faith journey with us.

United in prayer: Tues 2.45 & Weds 7pm
Our Prayer Foundation invite us all to join in 30 min of silent prayer. For prayer requests email clare.roller@icloud.com
