Arrangements while Fr. Alex starts to make his return to parish life (22/23 March 2025)

To help Fr Alex make a gradual return to parish life, the Link Group that was set up when he became unwell will remain in place for the time being, with each parish continuing to have a Link co-ordinator (please see table below). Their role is to be a point of contact for matters which would normally require access to Fr Alex. They will pass requests on to where they can best be dealt with, including to Fr Alex if that is appropriate.

Any requests for funerals will continue to be managed by Gerry Mulvenna, backed up by Gordon Jackson, so that funeral directors don’t approach Fr Alex directly and parishioners are not left uncertain as to what to do.

Sacrament of the Sick (Anointing)

1. If you have a planned admission to hospital and would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick (anointing) before you go into hospital, please approach the priest saying Mass in the sacristy, before or after Mass.
2. If you are admitted to hospital and would like to see a priest, please speak to the nurse in charge on your ward and he/she will arrange for one of the priests on the hospital chaplaincy team to visit you.
3. In the event of a pastoral emergency, please telephone St Mary’s Cathedral on 0131 556 1798 and ask for one of the priests. Please note that it may not be possible to respond immediately.
