John  14:15-16,23-26      As the Father sent me, so am I sending you:

receive the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said to his disciples:
‘If you love me you will keep my commandments.
I shall ask the Father,
and he will give you another Advocate
to be with you for ever.
‘If anyone loves me he will keep my word,
and my Father will love him,
and we shall come to him and make our home with him.
Those who do not love me do not keep my words.
And my word is not my own:
it is the word of the one who sent me.
I have said these things to you while still with you;
but the Advocate, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you everything
and remind you of all I have said to you.

Having used our prayer resources, you might want simply to reflect yourself on them and how that might flow into your coming week. Some people have found it very helpful to meet with others and share their thoughts.
If you are interested  in joining a small group to share your thoughts and feelings about God's Word from any of the resources you have watched please email us.

Questions for reflection (framed for a group discussion)

We are promised "another" advocate, the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the first advocate whose entire life was a Word explaining who God is and what is God's will for us. The second advocate will help us discern what that Word means for us as we travel together on our faith journey.

  1. Pray for guidance to discern your gifts and the gifts of those in your community.
If you are in a group, tell each other what gifts you see in them and reflect on what they tell you.
  2. What are some of the most important things to ask of God?

Prayers of Intercession

On this Pentecost Sunday we pray for Pope Francis, that he will be filled with God’s spirit of power, love and joy on the Birthday of the Church.  We pray for unity in the Church that our leaders and congregations be centred on Christ and not on power and division and therefore be more effective in bringing the Gospel to all people,

Lord in your mercy   Hear our prayer

We bring before our loving heavenly Father the leaders of our country and those who are key players in international relations, that they shun the temptation to divide and dominate others outside their group and be awakened to a true sense of self and national worth that allows all peoples to flourish.

We remember especially those suffering from conflict in the Ukraine, Nigeria, Yemen, Afghanistan and the Holy Land,

Lord in your mercy   Hear our prayer

On this Jubilee weekend we give thanks for our Queen, Elizabeth the second, who has faithfully  served the United Kingdom and commonwealth for 70 years and for the witness of her Christian faith, that these qualities will inspire others to a life of faith and service of others.

Lord in your mercy   Hear our prayer

We pray for our own communities, our family, friends and fellow parishioners, that together we will discover and grow the gifts God has given each of us, for the common good and for each one’s well being, especially in the service of those on the margins, and that we will not tire of asking God to fill us  with God’s spirit.

Lord in your mercy   Hear our prayer

For those in our faith communities and families who are suffering in mind, body or spirit, for individuals and families who are under strain with the rise in the cost of living and the effects of the pandemic, we ask that God by his spirit will comfort them and inspire them to hope.

We pray for those named in the cluster newsletter and the Prayer Foundation.

Lord in your mercy   Hear our prayer

We lift up in prayer to our Lord and Our Lady, those who have died recently and those whose anniversaries occur at this time of year, we remember those recently deceased:

Pat Hogg, Frank Smith, John Norman, John Lynch and Donald McAleavy.

Prayer to be Missionary Disciples

Picture of Jesus at door

Lord continue to bless our community
in this time of transition.
Help us on our journey
to grow from a maintenance church
to a missionary church.
Give us the courage
to be missionary disciples.
Make our doors wide enough
to receive all who need
human love and fellowship;
narrow enough to shut out
all envy, pride and prejudice.
Kindle in us the fire of your love
that all who come here
will find joy, peace and love.
Make this a house of prayer
and a gateway to your kingdom.
AMEN

Preparing for next week - the Most holy Trinity C

John 16: 12-15      Everything the Father has is mine:

all the Spirit tells you will be taken from what is mine.

Jesus said to his disciples:
‘I still have many things to say to you
but they would be too much for you now.
But when the Spirit of truth comes
he will lead you to the complete truth,
since he will not be speaking as from himself
but will say only what he has learnt;
and he will tell you of the things to come.
He will glorify me,
since all he tells you
will be taken from what is mine.
Everything the Father has is mine;
that is why I said:
All he tells you
will be taken from what is mine.’

Questions for reflection (framed for a group discussion)

This week, the Holy Spirit is called a "Spirit of truth... who will lead you to the complete truth".

In a world which gorges on insta-media novelties - the more sensational the better -

finding out "the truth" is becoming increasingly more difficult. But worth pursuing...

  1. Recall a time when you struggled to be "honest with yourself". How did it go in the end?
  2. What gift of service have you received from the Holy Spirit and how well are you using it right now?
