John 15:26-27,16:12-15   The Spirit of truth will lead you to the complete truth

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘When the Advocate comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who issues from the Father, he will be my witness. And you too will be witnesses, because you have been with me from the outset.

‘I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you now. But when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he will not be speaking as from himself

but will say only what he has learnt; and he will tell you of the things to come.

He will glorify me, since all he tells you will be taken from what is mine.

Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: All he tells you will be taken from what is mine.’

This is the gospel of the Lord.

Having used our prayer resources, you might want simply to reflect yourself on them and how that might flow into your coming week. Some people have found it very helpful to meet with others and share their thoughts.
If you are interested  in joining a small group to share your thoughts and feelings about God's Word from any of the resources you have watched please email us.

Questions for reflection (framed for a group discussion)

Today the church, the community of believers, is born.

Schooled by Jesus and now forged in the fire of the Holy Spirit, we too are led by the Spirit of truth.

This is the communal task of discernment and is the responsibility of all believers.

  1. Have you ever followed the voice of conscience rather than the official teaching of the Church?
    What effect did it have?
  2. When have you felt filled with the Spirit and emboldened to act with courage? *

Prayers of Intercession

Lord Hear Us… Lord Graciously Hear Us…

At Pentecost the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles transforming them, giving them the special gifts to enable them to carry out their lives of discipleship speaking in many different languages.

We pray for the church that under the guidance of Pope Francis the church will encourage all its members to use the gifts they received in appreciating that we are stewards of God's creation, treating the world's resources with respect.

Lord Hear Us… Lord Graciously Hear Us…

We pray for all world leaders; that they may be inspired by the Holy Spirit and have the courage to act for the good of all people and creation.

Lord Hear Us… Lord Graciously Hear Us...

For nations at war that the Spirit of peace may reign in the hearts of all who are responsible for violence so that real change for the better may take place.

Lord Hear Us… Lord Graciously Hear Us...

We pray for our parishes, families and friends, that the Holy Spirit may bring us the strength to make our world a fairer place for all people to live in.

Lord Hear Us… Lord Graciously Hear Us...

For ourselves that we will find new creative ways of expressing our love for God and each other by embracing the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Lord Hear Us… Lord Graciously Hear Us...

We pray for all the children who received the Sacrament of Confirmation this week, that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit enable them to carry out a life of discipleship. We also pray for the children who will receive their 1st Holy Communion in the coming weeks as the Sacramental programme comes to an end that they are supported by their families to receive the Eucharist regularly.
Lord Hear Us… Lord Graciously Hear Us...

For those suffering in body, mind or spirit, those with dementia, those with incurable diseases and those who are near to death; that they and their families will receive the love and support they need at this time. We remember especially all those on the prayer foundation list.
Lord Hear Us… Lord Graciously Hear Us...

We remember all those who have died Especially Arturo De Guzman, Callum Hart, Patrick Phelan, Maria Lucaci and those who grieve their loss that they be comforted by the good Lord..
Lord Hear Us… Lord Graciously Hear Us...

For all our brothers and sisters who have gone before us to their heavenly home, may they rest in the peace and love of God. We remember those who mourn their loss and ask that they feel the comfort and love of their friends and faith community at this difficult time. Arturo De Guzman, Callum Hart, Patrick Phelan, Maria Lucaci (Fr Eugen’s Mum) and all those whose anniversaries fall at this time. We give thanks for the gift of their lives. May they rest in peace and live in Christ.

Lord Hear Us… Lord Graciously Hear Us...

Let us now say together our prayer to be missionary disciples.

Lord continue to bless our community
in this time of transition.
Help us on our journey
to grow from a maintenance church
to a missionary church.
Give us the courage
to be missionary disciples.
Make our doors wide enough
to receive all who need
human love and fellowship;
narrow enough to shut out
all envy, pride and prejudice.
Kindle in us the fire of your love
that all who come here
will find joy, peace and love.
Make this a house of prayer
and a gateway to your kingdom.
AMEN

Preparing for next week -  Feast of the Holy Trinity B

Matthew 28: 16-20   Go and make disciples of all nations

The eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated. Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.’

Questions for reflection (framed for a group discussion)

"Everyone moved by the Spirit is a Daughter/Son of God." (Second reading) What a gift!

How can we work with the Spirit to "move" people towards a love of God and so to eternal life with God?

God is relationships; love is relationships; missionary discipleship is relationships...

  1. Talking to friends at the weekend Mass is "maintenance"; talking to someone new is "missionary".
  2. What signs of God’s love have you witnessed in your life? *
