Jacqui Sanger's Hymn of the Week
Spirit of God

Margaret Old, the writer of the following lyrics, was part of the Charismatic Renewal in the early 1970‘s, a movement that was ecumenical. I came across this when looking at the Season of Creation materials for this Sunday. She used the haunting melody of the “Skye Boat Song”. Whilst the song is very simple, I was struck by its relevance to the need for modern day prophets, more than ever in these challenging times, to keep the word of God in our hearts and actions.

Pat has kindly agreed to play and sing it. The lyrics are below the video.

Spirit of God, unseen as the wind, gentle as is the dove.

Touch us with love and teach us to sing, joy to you Lord above.

1. You inspired some, long, long ago, they then proclaimed Your Word.

We see their lives serving the world, through them Your voice is heard.

2.  Without Your help we fail our Lord, we cannot live this way.

We need Your power, we need Your strength, following Christ each day.

3.  Love in our hearts, praise in our prayers, we follow on Your way.

Lord of the sky, Lord of the earth, answer us when we pray.
