Reopening our churches: seeking your views and help (from BT email)
Dear Parishioner
You will be aware that in line with Phase 3 of the easing of lockdown restrictions, places of worship may now re-open for communal prayer, congregational service and contemplation, with limited attendance numbers and physical distancing. Yesterday, the Scottish Government issued detailed guidelines for the safe use of places of worship (Phase 3), which we are in the process of considering carefully.
We hope you have had the chance to read our communication of last weekend in which we shared what we know with our three cluster communities. If you haven’t, you can read it here.
As part of our continuing preparations for the opening of our churches we believe it is essential to hear the views of our parishioners. We would be grateful if you could fill in a short online questionnaire in which we seek your thoughts: Online Questionnaire. It would be helpful if you could complete the questionnaire by Monday evening (20 July) to allow us time to analyse your responses before our next meeting with our Strategy Team (Chairpersons of the Parish Pastoral Councils, the Parish Coordinators and Leadership Team).
Our primary consideration is our responsibility for the safety of everybody as we move forward. All of us would like to celebrate Mass as a community as soon as we can. However, the pace we can move at will depend on the number of people who are prepared to help make it happen by signing up to help organise, clean, disinfect and act as stewards.
We will only be able to take a firm position on when our church buildings can re-open for Mass once we have a sufficient number of volunteers to ensure the safety of all, Mass attendants and volunteers.
We would ask everybody to keep this in their prayers as we move forward together.
