Mark 14:12-16, 22-26 This is my Body. This is my blood.

On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was sacrificed, his disciples said to Jesus, ‘Where do you want us to go and make the preparations for you to eat the passover?’ So he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, ‘Go into the city and you will meet a man carrying a pitcher of water. Follow him, and say to the owner of the house which he enters, “The Master says: Where is my dining room in which I can eat the passover with my disciples?” He will show you a large upper room furnished with couches, all prepared. Make the preparations for us there.’ The disciples set out and went to the city and found everything as he had told them, and prepared the Passover.

And as they were eating he took some bread, and when he had said the blessing he broke it and gave it to them. ‘Take it,’ he said ‘this is my body.’ Then he took a cup, and when he had returned thanks he gave it to them, and all drank from it, and he said to them, ‘This is my blood, the blood of the covenant, which is to be poured out for many. I tell you solemnly, I shall not drink any more wine until the day I drink the new wine in the kingdom of God.’ After psalms had been sung they left for the Mount of Olives.

This is the gospel of the Lord.

Having used our prayer resources, you might want simply to reflect yourself on them and how that might flow into your coming week. Some people have found it very helpful to meet with others and share their thoughts.
If you are interested  in joining a small group to share your thoughts and feelings about God's Word from any of the resources you have watched please email us.

Questions for reflection (framed for a group discussion)

We must surely affirm the presence of Jesus among us as we gather as the People of God. Not only did he promise to be among us, without his death and resurrection - timelessly re-enacted at Mass - there can be no eternal life for us in the family of God.

  1. After you have received Holy Communion, what thoughts and feelings do you have? (Share if in a group)
  2. In what ways have you practised the words of Jesus and been bread for others? *

Prayers of Intercession

Let us pray for the Church, many members yet one body, that through our sharing of the Eucharist, we may be transformed more and more into the Body of Christ.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

For those who hunger and thirst in our world. May all governments continue to develop effective programmes that ensure the availability of food and water, especially for the peoples of developing countries.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

For those who work for justice and peace, that through them, Christ will heal the human family of greed and violence and bring an end to warfare throughout the world.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

For World Environment Day on June 5th. Let us unite in our efforts to safeguard our precious planet and create an even more remarkable haven for future generations.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

For our young people receiving their first Holy Communion today. May they always treasure this precious gift and grow in love, faith and hope.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

For Christian Unity, that God will heal the wounds and mistrust between Christians, help them work together for God’s glory, and speed the day when all can share the Body of Christ at a common altar.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

For all who are sick or suffering in any way, and everyone on the Prayer Foundation List, that they will be comforted by the ever-present love of our Lord.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

We pray for all those who have died especially:

Marion Arnott, Patricia Reilly, Arturo De Guzman, Callum Hart.

May they now share in the banquet of God’s eternal kingdom.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer

Let us now say together our prayer to be missionary disciples.

Lord continue to bless our community
in this time of transition.
Help us on our journey
to grow from a maintenance church
to a missionary church.
Give us the courage
to be missionary disciples.
Make our doors wide enough
to receive all who need
human love and fellowship;
narrow enough to shut out
all envy, pride and prejudice.
Kindle in us the fire of your love
that all who come here
will find joy, peace and love.
Make this a house of prayer
and a gateway to your kingdom.
AMEN

Preparing for next week -  Tenth Sunday Year B

Mark 3:20-35  - A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand.

Jesus went home with his disciples, and such a crowd collected that they could not even have a meal. When his relatives heard of this, they set out to take charge of him, convinced he was out of his mind.
The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, ‘Beelzebul is in him’ and, ‘It is through the prince of devils that he casts devils out.’ So he called them to him and spoke to them in parables, ‘How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot last. And if a household is divided against itself, that household can never stand. Now if Satan has rebelled against himself and is divided, he cannot stand either – it is the end of him. But no one can make his way into a strong man’s house and burgle his property unless he has tied up the strong man first. Only then can he burgle his house.
‘I tell you solemnly, all men’s sins will be forgiven, and all their blasphemies; but let anyone blaspheme against the Holy Spirit and he will never have forgiveness: he is guilty of an eternal sin.’ This was because they were saying, ‘An unclean spirit is in him.’
His mother and brothers now arrived and, standing outside, sent in a message asking for him. A crowd was sitting round him at the time the message was passed to him, ‘Your mother and brothers and sisters are outside asking for you.’ He replied, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ And looking round at those sitting in a circle about him, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who does the will of God, that person is my brother and sister and mother.’

This is the gospel of the Lord.

Questions for reflection (framed for a group discussion)

Extraordinary that Jesus’ family think he’s a bit crazy and want him to “see sense".

Yet Jesus never waivers in his resolve to do God’s wiII

and to those who do Iikewise he caIIs his sisters and brothers.

  1. What does “doing the wiII of God” mean in a practicaI sense in your everyday Iife?
  2. In what way could you widen the circle of your family to include someone in need? *
