Live streamed Masses here

Dear Parishioner,

You may have seen mention of the sudden death of a dear friend of the Cluster: Mike Knox.

Many of you will know him personally from his time as Head of RE then Depute Head at Holy Rood HS. The Cluster kept close contact with him through his time in Tanzania where he had formed links between both countries involving an incredible 36 schools and 6 parishes.  A commemorative Mass is being planned at St John's Portobello (Monday 14th) which will be streamed live.

Details of this will follow in a midweek email.

Requiem Mass live from Tanzania on Tuesday (8th) 11am (our time) will appear on this link nearer the time.

With our prayers, best wishes and blessings,
Fr Mike and Fr Alex.

Fr Mike's Fund

Many parishioners have asked for a way to give a gift to Father Mike on his well deserved retirement. As always Father Mike is thinking of others and has asked for any donations to be put in a Fund to help Father Eugene in Romania. If anyone would like to give a gift then there are three ways this can be done:

  • Use Online Banking and the following bank details
  • Account Number - 00693806
  • Sort Code - 80 02 73
  • Reference - Father Fallon
  • Use a special collection offertory envelope and leave in collection box - marked, Father Fallon
  • Use any envelope and leave in collection box - marked, Father Fallon
  • If none of these are suitable for you then please contact Fred McConnell - fredmcconnell@btinternet.com or 07901 964 100 for alternatives.

Please ensure that whichever way you choose that it is clearly marked, Father Fallon.

Phase 3: re-opening our church buildings.

This weekend we shall have all three parishes offering Mass at their usual times. To be able to attend your respective Mass, we would encourage you to make use of the phone option only if you are unable to book online. This will make things easier for our volunteers who are managing the booking system.

St Gregory's

Booking form

Phone: 07401 071 732

St John Vianney's

Booking form

Phone: 07898 170 282

St Catherine's

Phone: 07869 473 068

Those booking online will receive an automated acknowledgement that they are requesting to attend, but they must wait to receive a notice of confirmation that they have been allocated a place before considering coming to the Mass. However, it is advisable to check your "spam" folder in case it goes there.

You will be contacted either online or by phone and if you do not receive confirmation then you are not on the list for those coming that weekend. You do not need to re-book however, as your name will be moved up on the waiting list for the following week.

On-line and telephone bookings can be made from Monday mornings through to Wednesday at 5pm. This will give booking staff time to finalise the list and to send a notice of confirmation to those on the list. You must receive a notice of confirmation in order to attend that weekend.

It is important that you read and understand what is required of you before, during and after attending Mass. We have prepared some guidelines about this and they can be found here.

We are conscious that we are not reaching every parishioner since lockdown and we would encourage you to share this information with anyone you know or suspect may not have internet access. Let's stay connected!

Our Parish Registers are out of date!

We are starting to compile new ones so that we can stay better connected to you all.

Thank you all for another enriching cluster newsletter. I was especially delighted to hear our Missionary Prayer! Reading it along with Gerry took me back in my mind to us all reading it together at Mass. I also really liked the final hymn choice from Gordon Jackson.
Thank you all , God bless.

Justice matters:  Season of Creation 1 Sept - 4 Oct

SEE:  We are encouraged in this Season of Creation to renew and deepen our relationship with the earth. To begin to see afresh our responsibility for all of God’s creation.  Many of us have been brought up with a belief that humanity has dominion over creation.  Theologians became troubled as they saw this model being used to justify exploitation of resources and mammals.  More recently theologians have talked about humans as stewards of the earth – there to protect.  They also  speak of a kinship view of creation.  Humans are part of nature and we are all part of God’s creation.  Laudato Si’s message is we are all inter- connected.

REFLECT: The older of us may recognise the idea of humans as dominant.  Do we need to re-think?  Could we learn from the youth?   What does it mean to see ourselves in kinship with creation? To see ourselves as interconnected with the gorillas, the midges and the rainforest?  If we are all kin does this alter our response, to the call of the earth and the poor for a change in our behaviour?  Does it prompt us to change out of duty or a loving response to a family member?   Where do these ideas lead us?

ACT:  Find out what Laudato Si' says about creation?  Enjoy a walk, see yourself as a part of nature made by a loving God.  Talk to family or friends?  Consider holding October 4th, 2:30 to 4:30 for the Archdiocese's Season of Creation Retreat (on zoom).  Details to follow.

Season of Creation Retreat

Gospel Discipleship and

Ecological Sustainability

Saturday 12th September, 10am-3pm.

Retreat facilitated by Diarmuid O’Murchu. Following Christ today has a very different meaning from just a few decades ago. We are moving beyond a mere personal understanding (us and God), to a participative understanding with creation itself in central place.
