Cluster News 9/10 May

 Dear Parishioner,
We hope that this finds you and your families well. Here is our latest update.
Prayer Resources of various kinds
The Children’s Liturgy teams in each of our three parishes have come together to produce materials for use by the children and their parents whilst they cannot attend their normal sessions during Mass.
Please let us know how useful these materials are and of any suggestions you may have.
Thank you to Sophie and Christopher!
Their mum Siobhan writes:
"The children and I would like to say a huge thank you to the team organising the children's liturgy resources each week. Our family are really enjoying sharing the Gospel story together using the pictures and simple story provided. We are currently in lockdown away from home and without any craft resources, but the kids are still keen to have a go at the fun activity suggestion!"

"It's nice to remember it's Sunday as we make something and talk about the story together."      Sophie, 7

"I like to try good remembering so I can tell the story again."      Christopher, 6
Our weekend Prayer Resource for adults continues.
Please let us know if you find these useful and we welcome any feedback
Hymn of the week
Maureen Martin from SJV writes:
“I would like to share my favourite hymn with the cluster parish.
I just love the following hymn :
Bless the Lord Oh my soul

I find it a very uplifting and inspiring hymn.  It reminds me of the greatness of God. I find it very powerful and meaningful in this current pandemic of the coronavirus.  May the virus turn many hearts and souls to Jesus to be saved from sin.  It reminds me that we are all sinners and needy to repent.  When we turn to God He will heal us and the world of the coronavirus.   I feel God's presence when I sing or listen to this beautiful hymn. “Worship his holy name”,  “Bless the Lord oh my soul”
Bless all the people who are working  selflessly to combat this disease around the world. I feel that God will listen to us if we turn to him to repent and change our ways.  We must encourage others to do the same and pray for everyone.
God bless you & keep you safe.
Anyone can choose their favourite hymn and it would be good to hear from you the parishioners. If you would like to share your reflections about a hymn that means something to you, please contact Alisa alisa.winters@hotmail.co.uk
Prayer Foundation
Our Prayer Foundation would like to invite us all to be united (in spirit) in prayer on Tuesdays at 2.45pm and Wednesdays at 7pm.  A small group has been meeting regularly for 30 minutes of silent prayer at these times.  Some of the Prayer Foundation have been ‘doing’ this for the past couple of weeks and thought it would be good to invite everyone in our cluster and beyond (who wishes to do so) to be united in prayer during this time of separation and isolation. You should contact Clare if you want more information (clare.roller@icloud.com)

Views from the Pews
 Eileen Lewis writes:
"Thank you all for everything that went into this week's resources. There is a fabulous sense of community, just building more each week. I'm so impressed with the talent and faith being shown and used to such great effect. I love it all. And sometimes a reflection seems to be directed just at you personally. Thank you Fr Mike and Fr Alex for this week's reflection that's so obviously meant just for me. My jaw has dropped and my understanding of our (my) human condition just expanded wonderfully. Thank you so much.
God bless us all."

Neil and Mabel write:
"Thank you very much for the Mass links, reflections and updates - it is lovely to see and hear familiar voices
We appreciate the communication, thank you!
Have a good week, and take care.
Kind regards,"

Memories of Sr Mary Steedman
This week the Christie family have a poetic tribute to Sr Mary. Gerry (Catherine's brother) remembers the time when he was taught by her. The words are below and Gerry has also recorded them and you can listen to it here: https://youtu.be/wBO-6lOr0qg

Sister Mary
Sister Mary, was more than a friend we are pleased to say,
Sister was part of the Christie family.
Sister shared with us many a Christening, First Communion and lots of family gatherings too,
Sister would also call in to see us out the blue.
‘Would you like to stay for tea?’ mum would say,
‘I’ll get you a sandwich and a bowl of soup, I just made today!’

We all went to St Catherine’s School,
Sister wore her black habit, which made her look a wee bit scary!
As a teacher we called her Sister Cuthbert, before we knew her as Sister Mary.
Don’t be cheeky or misbehave or you’ll get extra sums,
and if you still don’t behave – remember, I know your mum!

Mum and Sister enjoyed each other’s company through thick and thin.
A friendship of many memories, where do we begin.
Sister Mary was a great support to mum and family when dad passed away,
and so this friendship grew in a lovely way.

Sister Mary would often take us for a run in the car,
down to see her Auntie Alice at North Berwick, that wasn’t too far.
While we were there, just for a wee treat,
we would all get a supper, from the chippie, at the bottom of the street.

We have many a photo of Sister, laughing the way she did, with all her charm,
she has even held all mum’s grandchildren, in her arms.

The latter years in the Rosehill Home, Sister Mary stayed for a spell,
Mum would meet Norma, and the three of them, would share many an hour or two,
as they all got on so well,

Then one April day,
Jesus called Sister Mary to say,
‘Your work on earth has now been truly done,
come and join me with my angels, to my heavenly kingdom.’

So, Sister Mary, we pray to you,
to guide and help us daily, as you used to do.
Your presence will never leave us,
your smile will always be there,
With ALL the happy memories, that we treasure and we share.
Gerard Christie
