Cluster Christmas Carols

Our Christmas Eve service at 4pm began with such poetic melody - Marissa singing "In the bleak mid-Winter".

It ended with a multi-track composition with Alisa bringing 12 of our musicians and singers together for the Christmas Carol Classic - "Silent Night". In between these two pieces, our children read, sang and arranged the crib figures and Fr Alex provided some prayerful reflections - and a message from Santa! Watch the whole of it here.

The Angel Gabriel

Clare has chosen her favourite Advent Hymn: ‘The Angel Gabriel.’ (Sometimes known as Gabriel’s Message or The Annunciation Carol.)

Clare says. “As a child I thought the words were “most highly FLAVOURED lady”! Still appropriate don’t you think?”

What childhood memories do you have of Advent hymns and carols? Why not share these with family & friends and bring some smiles this week?

It is sung by Maureen and Steve.

Child in the Manger

Kathleen Thomson:

“My reason for saying that ‘ Child in the Manger ‘ is my favourite Christmas Hymn, is, that it really tells the story of the life of Jesus. For me, the lines in each verse tell me so much.. for instance the first verse ‘Outcast and stranger. Lord of all', say to me that everyone is a child of his, no matter what race , colour or creed.

Also the two lines following in verse one, ‘ Child who inherits all our transgressions, all our demerits on him fall ‘. This for me says, that no matter what sins, wrongdoings, faults or offences we do, he will be there to take them, and make the burden easier for all of us.

I could go through each verse, pinpointing the different lines and what they mean to me, but perhaps you could all do it yourself, and I am sure it could be a good topic for a debate, as there would be so many different meanings.”

It is sung and played by Catherine.
