Acts of Hope - revisited

SCIAF Lenten Challenge

Acts of Hope Week 1 Waste less food

This Lent, we’re asking you to offer up as many Acts of Hope as you can as part of your Lenten practice. What are Acts of Hope? They are any actions to show your solidarity with those living at the forefront of the Climate Emergency, and protect our Common Home here in Scotland.

Here's an easy one for Week 1. Waste less food. Food wastage is a major contributor to climate change. Think again before you throw good food out. There are many ways you could serve up another tasty meal ... ask your Grandma!

Week 2: Eat in Hope

To make a positive change, why not commit to a vegetarian diet for all or some of Lent? The food we eat has a significant impact on our Common Home. The production of greenhouse gas emissions from the meat and dairy industries is a major contributor to the Climate Emergency.

Week 3: Travel in Hope

How about taking public transport, or walking, cycling and running to work (or other places)? In the UK, transport is responsible for more carbon emissions than any other sector. By changing how you travel this Lent you can help reduce congestion, improve air quality, and make a positive local change to a global problem.

Offer up as many Acts of Hope as you can as part of your Lenten practice. These are actions to show your solidarity with those living at the forefront of the Climate Emergency, and protect our Common Home here in Scotland.

Week 4: Remember in Hope

As the tragedy unfolding in Ukraine dominates the headlines, let us also remember the many other parts of the world that are devastated by war, genocide and climate change. Read Bishop Toal's letter and help cylone-hit Malawi families by donating to this year's Wee Box appeal.

Week 5: Reuse in Hope

Why not try giving up single-use items such as coffee cups, or go further and avoid buying any new non-essential items, such as clothes or electronics. By not buying new, not only will you save money which you can donate to the Wee Box Appeal, but you’ll produce less waste and lessen demand on manufacturing and logistics which all contribute to climate change.

Week 6: Donate in Hope

By giving a regular donation this Lent, together we can help change the lives of families across the world, helping people grow more food, heal their local environment, and provide a more secure income for the future.

Regular donations, however big or small, support our work at the forefront of the climate crisis. Donate in Hope during Lent with a weekly gift to SCIAF using our new Lenten recurring card payment.
