Prayers of Intercession    Fourth Sunday of Easter A

For our faith community leaders, that they be greatly inspired by the Spirit of God to shepherd and walk alongside us, courageously and humbly, in these uncertain and changing times. We ask that they be equipped to find effective and inclusive ways of staying close to all those they serve.
Response: Lord in your mercy …Hear our prayer

That many will have open hearts to the promises of the Gospel, and receive the gift of faith and experience the limitless love of God.  May we all turn to God’s eternal love and away from self seeking and destructive ways,
Response: Lord in your mercy …Hear our prayer

For the leaders of our nations, that they be guided to make wise decisions by advisers with integrity, and humility. May they turn to our Lord for wisdom and strength and have the courage to choose what is best for the common good and especially  for the most vulnerable,
Response: Lord in your mercy …Hear our prayer

We ask for our Lord to pour his grace into our hearts that despite this time of isolation and uncertainty we will know the gifts of peace, hope and  love of the Holy Spirit. Relying on God’s strength may we be bearers of hope to our communities,
Response: Lord in your mercy …Hear our prayer

For all our young people, that they will be enabled to trust in the goodness of God and be blessed with  hope for their future in these uncertain times.

For all our senior members, that trusting in the abundant love of God, they will know they are valued members of our community and have opportunities to experience a deeper sense of belonging to our faith community.

For those who are struggling with poor physical and mental health, and those separated from loved ones, that they will know the comfort and care of our heavenly Father and our blessed mother Mary.  We remember especially Gerry Mulvenna, Nancy Murray and Fr Tommy Greenan and those who have asked for our prayers

Lord continue to bless our community
in this time of transition.
Help us on our journey
to grow from a maintenance church
to a missionary church.
Give us the courage
to be missionary disciples.
Make our doors wide enough
to receive all who need
human love and fellowship;
narrow enough to shut out
all envy, pride and prejudice.
Kindle in us the fire of your love
that all who come here
will find joy, peace and love.
Make this a house of prayer
and a gateway to your kingdom.
AMEN
Questions. (Framed for a group discussion  but can be reflected on individually)
  • Jesus asks: "What are you looking for?" Create two lists as long as you like; one for yourself and one for your hopes for the world. Now narrow it down to just three for each - try to be specific but no combining! It won't be easy but part of being a missionary disciple is about creating priorities...
  • In this coming week, look for God in his Word (scriptures); in other people you contact; and in the periods of silence which you make for yourself. Listen for God's voice calling you to do something you have put off too long.
  • If we are missing Mass, our Good Shepherds Alex and Mike are most certainly missing us! Thank God for their service and friendship and pray for their well-being in all its senses.
