Psalm 29: I will praise the Lord, you have rescued me.

I will praise you Lord you have rescued me, I will praise you Lord, you have rescued me.

I will praise you Lord you have rescued me, I will praise you Lord, you have rescued me.

I will praise you, Lord, you have rescued me and have not let my enemies rejoice over me.

O Lord you have raised my soul from dead, restored me to life from those sink into the grave.

I will praise you Lord you have rescued me, I will praise you Lord, you have rescued me.

Sing psalms to the Lord, you who love him. Give thanks, give thanks to his Holy name.
His anger lasts but a moment his favour though life. At night there are tears, but joy comes with the dawn.

I will praise you Lord you have rescued me, I will praise you Lord, you have rescued me.

The Lord has had pity and has listened. The Lord came to my help, my help.

You have changed my mourning into dancing, O Lord my God, forever I will give you thanks.

I will praise you Lord you have rescued me, I will praise you Lord, you have rescued me.

John 21: 1-19    Jesus stepped forward, took the bread and gave it to them,

and the same with the fish

Jesus showed himself again to the disciples.

It was by the Sea of Tiberias, and it happened like this:

Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee,

the sons of Zebedee and two more of his disciples were together.

Simon Peter said, ‘I’m going fishing.’

They replied, ‘We’ll come with you.’

They went out and got into the boat but caught nothing that night.
It was light by now and there stood Jesus on the shore,

though the disciples did not realise that it was Jesus.

Jesus called out, ‘Have you caught anything, friends?’

And when they answered, ‘No’, he said,

‘Throw the net out to starboard and you’ll find something.’

So they dropped the net, and there were so many fish that they could not haul it in. The disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord.’

At these words ‘It is the Lord’, Simon Peter, who had practically nothing on,

wrapped his cloak round him and jumped into the water.

The other disciples came on in the boat, towing the net and the fish;

they were only about a hundred yards from land.

As soon as they came ashore they saw that there was some bread there,

and a charcoal fire with fish cooking on it.

Jesus said, ‘Bring some of the fish you have just caught.’

Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore,

full of big fish, one hundred and fifty-three of them;

and in spite of there being so many the net was not broken.

Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast.’

None of the disciples was bold enough to ask, ‘Who are you?’;

they knew quite well it was the Lord.

Jesus then stepped forward, took the bread and gave it to them,

and the same with the fish.

This was the third time that Jesus showed himself to the disciples

after rising from the dead.

After the meal Jesus said to Simon Peter,

‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than these others do?’

He answered, ‘Yes Lord, you know I love you.’

Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my lambs.’

A second time he said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’

He replied, ‘Yes, Lord, you know I love you.’

Jesus said to him, ‘Look after my sheep.’

Then he said to him a third time, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’

Peter was upset that he asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ and said,

‘Lord, you know everything; you know I love you.’

Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.
‘I tell you most solemnly,
when you were young
you put on your own belt
and walked where you liked;
but when you grow old
you will stretch out your hands,
and somebody else will put a belt round you
and take you where you would rather not go.’
In these words he indicated the kind of death by which Peter would give glory to God. After this he said, ‘Follow me.’

This the gospel of the Lord

Having used our prayer resources, you might want simply to reflect yourself on them and how that might flow into your coming week. Some people have found it very helpful to meet with others and share their thoughts.
If you are interested  in joining a small group to share your thoughts and feelings about God's Word from any of the resources you have watched please email us.

Questions for reflection (framed for a group discussion)

Three times Jesus asks for Peter's love, because love cancels Peter's betrayal,

the lifestyle of the woman who washed his feet and so much else.

At Easter, we are once again at the dawn of God's love for us. Let's walk together and discover its power.

  1. Sometimes, we feel guilty about how we respond to God's love but God is not interested in our faults. In prayer this week, just talk about your love for God and show something of it through your neighbour.
  2. In what ways are you answering Jesus' command to Peter to "feed my sheep"?

Prayers of Intercession

As we celebrate the life and work of Saint Peter and Paul we give thanks for our church and its faithfulness through the ages.

We ask the Lord to bless Pope Francis and all leaders, teachers in the church that they may be open and attentive to his guiding Spirit.

LORD HEAR US….

We pray that in our daily prayers and conversations, our daily work and service, we may remain faithful to Christ teachings and love with his compassion, whatever the cost.

LORD HEAR US….

We pray for all those who have recently become members of God’s church through baptism that they may grow in faith and be strengthened day by day in the service of Christ.

LORD HEAR US….

We pray for all those whose spirit is crushed with guilt and a sense of failure that they may know our Lord’s forgiveness and healing and be restored in faith and confidence in God’s love.

LORD HEAR US…..

In this month of May we ask Mary our Mother to pray for us to God, the Father of mercies, that the great suffering being experienced by so many throughout the world may end.

LORD HEAR US….

We pray for the sick and housebound and all those who have asked for our prayers.                                                                          We pray also for those who have died recently especially (Margaret Linforth, Fiona Scott & Eileen Donaldson)

and those prayed for at our Easter Service of Remembrance this weekend.

May they be welcomed into the Eternal Kingdom and rest in your everlasting peace.

LORD HEAR US….

Prayer to be Missionary Disciples

Picture of Jesus at door

Lord continue to bless our community
in this time of transition.
Help us on our journey
to grow from a maintenance church
to a missionary church.
Give us the courage
to be missionary disciples.
Make our doors wide enough
to receive all who need
human love and fellowship;
narrow enough to shut out
all envy, pride and prejudice.
Kindle in us the fire of your love
that all who come here
will find joy, peace and love.
Make this a house of prayer
and a gateway to your kingdom.
AMEN

Preparing for next week - Fourth Sunday of Easter C

John 10: 27-30     I give eternal life to the sheep that belong to me.

Jesus said:
‘The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice;
I know them and they follow me.
I give them eternal life;
they will never be lost
and no one will ever steal them from me.
The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone,
and no one can steal from the Father.
The Father and I are one.’
