Psalm 92

The Lord is King with majesty enrobed

The Lord is King with majesty enrobed.

He robes himself with might

and girds himself with power.

The world you made stands firm from age to age.

Your throne has not been moved

for all eternity.

We place our trust in all of your decrees.
Your holiness O Lord

will stand the test of time.

John 18:33-37  Yes, I am a king

‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ Pilate asked.

Jesus replied, ‘Do you ask this of your own accord,

or have others spoken to you about me?’

Pilate answered, ‘Am I a Jew? It is your own people and the chief priests who have handed you over to me: what have you done?’

Jesus replied, ‘Mine is not a kingdom of this world;

if my kingdom were of this world,

my men would have fought to prevent my being surrendered to the Jews. But my kingdom is not of this kind.’

‘So you are a king then?’ said Pilate.

‘It is you who say it’ answered Jesus. ‘Yes, I am a king.

I was born for this, I came into the world for this: to bear witness to the truth; and all who are on the side of truth listen to my voice.’
This is is the gospel of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Having read the gospel, you might want simply to reflect yourself on what you have read and how that might flow into your coming week. Some people have found it very helpful to meet with others and share their thoughts.

If you are interested  in joining a small group to share your thoughts and feelings about God's Word from any of the

resources you have watched please email us.         cluster.alpha@outlook.com

Questions for reflection (framed for a group discussion)

We are at the end of another liturgical year.

This will be one to remember for many reasons.

Think back over your faith journey in the past year

and try to remember any significant moments.

  1. Was there something or someone this year who made you see something about your faith in a more helpful light? (Share with your group)
  2. What would you be doing differently in your life if you truly believed you would meet Christ soon?

Prayers of Intercession

On this Feast day of Christ the King may we reflect on the life of Jesus.

A king, not of power but of justice, truth and love.

May we seek to follow Jesus and strive to serve each other in love

and so bring about God’s Kingdom here on earth.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

For ourselves, that we may be motivated to protect life and beauty

and bring healing to our world and those around us.

Grant that we may be inspired to protect our planet and not prey on it,

and learn to value every living creature.

May our world be restored to full health worthy of those yet to be born.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

For governments and political leaders that they will govern with wisdom and compassion.

That they will listen with their hearts to the cry of the earth and cry of the poor.

We pray for generous leadership to implement policies

that will secure the health and well-being of the earth

and all people regardless of the cost to wealth or political prestige

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

For the families and friends of expectant mothers.

That they would love, and care for the mother and her child

throughout her pregnancy and beyond,

offering encouragement and support whenever it is needed.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

For all who are sick in mind or in body at home or in hospital.

May they experience healing through our prayers

and through the love and compassion of those who care for them.

Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer

For those who have died

We remember especially… John McIntosh, John Allan, Kathleen Clark, Bridget Coyle,

Danny Coyle, Mary McConville

May they enjoy eternal peace

Cluster Prayer

Lord continue to bless our community
in this time of transition.
Help us on our journey
to grow from a maintenance church
to a missionary church.
Give us the courage
to be missionary disciples.
Make our doors wide enough
to receive all who need
human love and fellowship;
narrow enough to shut out
all envy, pride and prejudice.
Kindle in us the fire of your love
that all who come here
will find joy, peace and love.
Make this a house of prayer
and a gateway to your kingdom.
AMEN

Preparing for next week

Luke 21:25-28, 34-36    Your liberation is near at hand.

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars;

on earth nations in agony,

bewildered by the clamour of the ocean and its waves;

men dying of fear as they await what menaces the world,

for the powers of heaven will be shaken.

And then they will see the Son of Man

coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

When these things begin to take place, stand erect,

hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand.

‘Watch yourselves, or your hearts will be coarsened

with debauchery and drunkenness and the cares of life,

and that day will be sprung on you suddenly, like a trap.

For it will come down on every living man on the face of the earth.

Stay awake,

praying at all times for the strength to survive all that is going to happen,

and to stand with confidence before the Son of Man.’
This the gospel of the Lord

We start on another chapter of our faith journey.

Jesus invited lots of people in the gospels: sometimes just to listen to what he had to say; sometimes he invited himself to their homes.

Who will we invite to be part of our journey this year -

someone who will share fresh insights with us on our road to Emmaus perhaps.
