Psalm 125

What marvels the Lord worked for us, indeed we were glad.

When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage, it seemed like a dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter on our lips there were songs.

The heathens themselves said: ‘What marvels the Lord worked for them!’

What marvels the Lord worked for us! Indeed we were glad.

Deliver us, O Lord, from our bondage as streams in dry land.

Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap.

They go out, they go out, full of tears carrying seed for the sowing

they come back, they come back, full of song, carrying their sheaves.

Mark 10:46-52  Master, let me see again.

As Jesus left Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd,

Bartimaeus (that is, the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar,

was sitting at the side of the road.

When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,

he began to shout and to say,

‘Son of David, Jesus, have pity on me.’

And many of them scolded him and told him to keep quiet,

but he only shouted all the louder,

‘Son of David, have pity on me.’

Jesus stopped and said, ‘Call him here.’

So they called the blind man.

‘Courage,’ they said ‘get up; he is calling you.’

So throwing off his cloak, he jumped up and went to Jesus.

Then Jesus spoke, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’

‘Rabbuni,’ the blind man said to him ‘Master, let me see again.’

Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your faith has saved you.’

And immediately his sight returned and he followed him along the road.

This is is the gospel of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Having read the gospel, you might want simply to reflect yourself on what you have read and how that might flow into your coming week. Some people have found it very helpful to meet with others and share their thoughts.

If you are interested  in joining a small group to share your thoughts and feelings about God's Word from any of the resources you have watched please email us.         cluster.alpha@outlook.com

Questions for reflection (framed for a group discussion)

If we were to replay that gospel scene with ourselves

sitting at the side of the road and Jesus were to stop and ask:

"What do you want me to do for you?" I wonder what we would ask for...

  1. Find time this week to consider what you want from Jesus, right here, right now.
  2. What have your eyes of faith helped you see in a new way? (Share in your group)

Prayers of Intercession

Fr Alex - On this World Mission Sunday, we are called to not be silent about the wonders God has done. Let us now ask God’s blessing and offer our prayers as part of our Mission to pray for the church and the world.

For our Holy Father, Pope Francis, primary missionary of the Church, and for the bishops and clergy of Scotland that they may lead God’s people in holiness and in being witnesses to Christ, our Saviour

(Pause) Lord, hear us…..

For our world at this time of uncertainty, let us pray for those whose lives are threatened by Climate change, such as the peoples of Fiji and Papa New Guinea that, God may be near them in the difficulties they face, let us pray for COP26 that those who will make decisions will look for and see God’s love and beauty of creation and protect and cherish our world.

(Pause) Lord, hear us…..

We pray for all those affected by natural disasters in the world especially the Syro Malabar community who may have family affected by the devastating floods in Kerala.

(Pause) Lord hear Us….

For all those who are sick and housebound, for those who have asked for our prayers may they be comforted and assured of our ongoing prayers for them.

(Pause) Lord, hear us...

For all those who have died, and those they leave behind, that they may be part of the family of God, and that you will grant them the peace and joy of eternity.

(Pause) Lord, hear us...

Prayer to be missionary disciples

Lord continue to bless our community
in this time of transition.
Help us on our journey
to grow from a maintenance church
to a missionary church.
Give us the courage
to be missionary disciples.
Make our doors wide enough
to receive all who need
human love and fellowship;
narrow enough to shut out
all envy, pride and prejudice.
Kindle in us the fire of your love
that all who come here
will find joy, peace and love.
Make this a house of prayer
and a gateway to your kingdom.
AMEN

Preparing for next week

Mark 12:28-34    'You are not far from the kingdom of God'
One of the scribes came up to Jesus and put a question to him,

‘Which is the first of all the commandments?’

Jesus replied, ‘This is the first:

Listen, Israel, the Lord our God is the one Lord,

and you must love the Lord your God with all your heart,

with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.

The second is this:

You must love your neighbour as yourself.

There is no commandment greater than these.’

The scribe said to him,

‘Well spoken, Master; what you have said is true:

that he is one and there is no other.

To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and strength,

and to love your neighbour as yourself,

this is far more important than any holocaust or sacrifice.’

Jesus, seeing how wisely he had spoken, said,

‘You are not far from the kingdom of God.’

And after that no one dared to question him any more.

This is is the gospel of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

How near are we to the Kingdom of God?

The Pharisee is near - not because he is going to die soon! - but because his attitude and mindset is one of love: both for God and for neighbour.

The greater your love, the nearer you are to eternal life with God.

  2. Why is love of neighbour as important as love of God?
