A World with Peace and Justice

St Catherine’s Primary School had a wonderful celebration in the Church on Wednesday. It was the culmination of work done in school with workshops delivered by Mike Knox on the themes of Peace, Justice and Global Vision. It was a moment of history when we were able to make a whole school link live with Mweka Primary School in Tanzania and to sing along together songs of peace. That we were able to have the live link was down to the fact that our pupils had sent a laptop to Mweka. Their excitement and joy was very evident.

Our pupils proved to be imaginative and artistic in creating their own Peace Sticks, a number of which are still in the Sanctuary so that you can see the work for yourselves. Each member of staff and all the pupils were commissioned as Peace Ambassadors and were presented with a Peace badge by Revs John Young, David Dixon and Mike Taylor who were our special guests. Also present were groups of pupils from Gracemount Primary, St John Vianney’s Primary and Holy Rood High.

The Imam from Edinburgh Central Mosque, Yahya Barry, had planned to be with us but a last minute change of plans was forced on him and he was in touch saying that he was heartbroken because he had been so looking forward to the celebration.
